In a recent post, I shared that my fiberglass pool installation team and I spend a lot of time in the winter months talking with customers who will want a pool installed as soon as the weather turns. Some are reaching out during winter because they’ve received a holiday bonus or an early tax refund. Others missed out in the previous year. A few are just great at planning ahead.

Whatever the reason, some readers and homeowners seem surprised that we plan future fiberglass pool installations when it’s cold and gray. That has led to a popular follow-up question: when is the perfect time of year to start working with a team that can add a pool to your property?

There isn’t a single way to answer this question, if only because so much depends on circumstances. Still, I want to use this post to break down a handful of points I think are important when you’re trying to decide when to get started.

So, let’s begin with the one piece of truth that matters more than the others…

The Best Time to Get a Pool is When You’re Ready

I want to put this front and center before I share any other advice and perspectives. Only you know your schedule, budget, lifestyle, and needs. Whatever time I think of as being “perfect” for installing a fiberglass pool might not make sense to you based on whatever else you have going on in your life or career.

Naturally, there is an element of common sense involved. It’s important to lead with personal time and budget considerations, though, because we do meet customers who think that if they miss the “perfect pool installation window” they’ll need to wait many months to get started. That just isn’t the case.

The best time to get a pool is when you want one and can work it into your life and budget. Everything else is secondary.

Winter is Great for Plan-Ahead Types

As I mentioned in my post about winter in our industry, the colder months are when we hear from those who like to plan ahead and get every detail put in place before we break ground. These customers tend to be fantastic and know exactly what they want. In return they get their project taken care of with no delays.

Deciding on your fiberglass pool installation in the winter gives us plenty of time to order materials, survey your property, and put you first on our schedule. Then you can have virtually the entire year to enjoy your swimming pool. It also means you won’t have to rush at all during the planning process.

Fiberglass Pool Installations Pick up in the Spring

It’s probably obvious, but we start getting a lot busier once the ground begins to thaw. That’s the time when we can actually start excavating. It’s also when homeowners shift their focus to the warmer months ahead.

For these reasons our crew starts to work its way into peak efficiency in March and April. Usually, we have at least a handful of fiberglass pool installations scheduled from the winter that has just passed (see above). Additionally, this is the point where new inquiries will start arriving on a daily basis.

The great thing about starting your hardscaping project in Spring is that you’ll likely have your pool and patio ready to use when things get really warm in the summer. You might have to wait a few weeks if someone got the idea first, but you’re still well ahead of the game.

Summer Can be a Surprisingly Good Choice

There are a lot of reasons why we stay busy installing fiberglass pools during the summer. Some customers will simply have come to us at the end of Spring when we are already booked up. Others won’t have decided they want a pool until the weather has warmed up significantly. Some might have already wanted a pool but needed to save a bit of extra money to bring the project to life.

However, there is another interesting reason to wait until summer: many of our customers have their pools installed while they are away on vacation. That way they can leave the stifling heat behind, go somewhere that feels more comfortable, and come back to a new pool and patio that have been finished to perfection.

Summer tends to be when people go away, and also a time when Massachusetts weather can be predictable. If you want a pool but don’t love the idea of a disruption to your daily life, this could be the perfect option.

Autumn Might Be the Perfect Time to Install Fiberglass Pool

Out of all the seasons, autumn might be the least popular for fiberglass pool installation. I get it: if you have a pool installed in October or November you probably won’t get much chance to use it right away. Plus, many customers are concentrating on work and school, or looking ahead of the holidays.

All of that makes sense. However, autumn tends to be a slow season and the ground still isn’t frozen. So, you can probably get a pool installed quickly. And then, once you do, it will be ready for you to use as warm spring weather arrives.

For some of our customers, that makes this the ideal season to opt for a new fiberglass pool.

Are You Ready for a Fiberglass Pool This Year?

Now that I’ve told you how we look at things from within the industry, let me take things back to my first point. Are you thinking about adding a fiberglass pool to your property in the coming months?

You don’t have to make a decision right now. The best thing to do is to get specifics so you can make an informed choice. Consider speaking with a member of our design staff to explore sizes, ideas, timelines, and budgets. Then you can see whether a fiberglass pool makes sense. Without those insights you will only be guessing.

It only takes a moment to get in touch with the Stefano’s Landscaping team, and all initial surveys take place at your home. That means it won’t cost you anything to get a detailed quote. You won’t even have to travel past your front door.

Why not get in touch today and see what it will take to get the fiberglass pool your dreams?
